Ghana Government Pledges Full Support to Family of 15-Year-Old Javits Frimpong Killed in New York

The Government of Ghana has pledged its full support to the family of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York, while on his way to school.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m. The teenager was reportedly attacked by unidentified assailants and later died after being rushed to the hospital.

Foreign Affairs Minister Assures Family of Government Support

Following the incident, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, spoke directly with the deceased’s father, Thomas Frimpong, to express the government’s condolences and assure him of its commitment to supporting the family’s pursuit of justice.

The Minister, speaking on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, described the incident as heartbreaking.

“We will pursue justice, and we will make sure that those who did this do not get away with it,” he assured the bereaved father.

Officials from Ghana’s Permanent Mission in New York also visited the family to express their condolences and demonstrate the government’s solidarity.

Ghana Calls for Thorough Investigation

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the relevant authorities in the Bronx to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

The Ministry further assured the family that Ghana’s diplomatic mission would work closely with United States authorities and provide the necessary legal and consular assistance.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has also called for a thorough and impartial investigation.

The Ambassador highlighted reports that Javits had experienced racial bullying at school, stressing that all relevant circumstances must be carefully examined.

However, authorities have not established any connection between the reported bullying and the fatal shooting.

A Family and Nation in Mourning

Javits reportedly moved from Ghana to the United States barely a year ago in search of better educational opportunities and a brighter future.

His tragic death has left his family, friends and loved ones in both Ghana and the United States devastated.

The government has extended its condolences, particularly to his mother, Doris Adu Gyamfi, who is in Kumasi, and has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and dignity of Ghanaians living abroad.

As investigations continue, many Ghanaians are hoping that those responsible for the teenager’s death will be identified and brought to justice.
