Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the club is really concerned about the injury record of midfielder Thomas Partey after his latest injury.

The Ghana international is yet to play for the club since returning from the international break where he featured for the Black Stars.

Partey was ruled out of the game against Chelsea in the Premier League after suffering a muscle injury and is expected to be out for 'weeks,' according to his manager.

"I think he will be out for weeks. I don't know how long but he's got another appointment today [and] we will see more after that," Arteta said.

"Yes, [his injury record] is a big concern because when Thomas is fit and available and has been a part of the team we see the results and impact he has on the team.

"This season we've had more protection, especially for that reason because we know in the last two seasons what had happened and the impact that had on the team. We have to address it."

The Spaniard also encouraged Partey to be motivated as the whole squad continue to wish him well in the difficult moments.

"I am so sorry for him because he is doing everything right to be there," he added.

"He was gutted...but he needs to lift himself up again with our support and go again because he is a player that is critical for us."

Arsenal face West Ham United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night looking to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Qatar became the only host nation to lose the opening game in World Cup history after falling 2-0 to Ecuador on Sunday at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Playing in their first-ever World Cup, the Maroons’ inexperience and lack of quality shone early in the game as Enner Valencia scored in under three minutes. A goal that was later ruled out for an offside.

13 minutes after, Valencia, the Ecuador captain, won a penalty when he was brought down by goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb and slotted in beautifully for the opener.

The South Americans doubled their lead 31 minutes in. Valencia again.

The Fenerbahçe forward headed in the second from an Angelo Preciado precise lofted pass into the box in the 31st minute.

The first half finished 2-0 in favour of Ecuador.

In the second half, Ecuador seemed to have taken their leg off the gas a bit, with Qatar also having some good spells in the game.

Ecuador now leads Group A with three points ahead of tomorrow’s meeting between Senegal and the Netherlands.
