Techiman SHS Assault: GES Recommends Sanctions Against Two Teachers After Student Attack

By AlloLifestyle News Desk | November 3, 2026

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has recommended disciplinary action against two teachers of Techiman Senior High School following an alleged assault on a 17-year-old student that sparked widespread public outrage after a video of the incident circulated on social media.

The two teachers are facing recommendations for reprimand, removal from their positions as Masters on Duty and payment of the student’s medical expenses.

The development follows an investigation by the school’s disciplinary committee after footage emerged showing two men physically assaulting a student on the school premises.

How the Incident Happened

According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred on October 23, 2026, at approximately 4 p.m. on the school’s premises in the Bono East Region.

The teachers allegedly confronted the Form Three student over claims that he had assaulted two Form One students.

The incident later attracted national attention after a video purportedly showing the assault went viral on social media.

The Bono East Regional Police Command subsequently arrested the two teachers on November 1, 2026.

They were identified as Jerry Jones Owusu Bekoe, 37, an English Language teacher, and Ameyaw Adusa, 44, an Information and Communications Technology teacher.

Both were reported to be in police custody assisting with investigations.

GES Announces Recommended Disciplinary Measures

The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service in charge of Quality and Access, Dr Issahaque Munawaru, disclosed the proposed disciplinary measures during an interview on Joy FM on Monday, November 2.

According to him, the school’s disciplinary committee recommended that the teachers be reprimanded and removed from their Masters on Duty positions.

The committee also recommended that they pay the medical expenses incurred by the student’s parents following the incident.

The teachers are additionally expected to undergo guidance and counselling as part of the proposed disciplinary process.

Allegations of Student Bullying Emerge

During the investigation, preliminary findings reportedly indicated that the affected student had been bullying some Form One students and demanding money from them.

According to Dr Munawaru, some students who allegedly refused to pay were beaten with the metal parts of belts.

However, he stressed that such allegations did not justify the teachers’ actions.

The GES maintains that teachers are expected to follow professional standards and established disciplinary procedures when dealing with student misconduct.

Police Investigation Still Ongoing

Although the school’s disciplinary committee has made its recommendations, the criminal investigation by the police remains ongoing.

The outcome of the police investigation is expected to inform further action by the Ghana Education Service.

The affected student has reportedly received medical attention and is responding positively to treatment.

Concerns Over Student Safety in Ghanaian Schools

The incident has renewed public discussion about student protection, school discipline and the responsibility of teachers to maintain safe learning environments.

While teachers play an important role in maintaining discipline, the incident raises questions about appropriate ways of addressing misconduct without exposing students to physical harm.

Parents and education stakeholders continue to expect schools to provide environments where students can learn without fear of abuse.
